I (25f) told my (36m) boyfriend I have HPV and now he’s acting weird towards me.

Yesterday I found out my pap came back positive for HPV 16 and need to start procedures on Monday to get rid of it before it turns into cervical cancer. My boyfriend and I have been together for 1.5 years and I’ve had an STD screening before and during our relationship. Both of our tests have always come back clean. This would be my first STD.

After doing some research, I’ve found that HPV can lay dormant for years, so neither of us knows who I got it from but he’s upset with me. He won’t comfort me during this scary time and is making it all about himself. He says “I’m a carrier now and I’m not going to be okay or happy about it,” which is understandable but at the same time he knows he won’t be affected by the HPV like I currently am.

My question here is: Am I asking for too much to want to be comforted?

Another question I have is: How should I go about comforting him?

TL;DR my boyfriend is acting weird after hearing I have HPV. How do we comfort each other?
