I am a member of an activity club of about 35-40 people - all male, except for one female. Generally, all the members are married with kids, and as far as I know, everyone thinks of lone female as a younger sister type, but she can "hang" with the group in terms of socialization, jokes and ability in the activity. I've not spent all that much time with her, and she seems equally friendly with all the folks in the group.
After an activity, on social media I posted a photo of the group, taken as a selfie, so I was in the foreground. She wrote on the post that my eyes looked amazing in the photo. I haven't paid much attention to her activity on social media, but it seems in character with her that she would say such a thing to anyone without "hitting on" that person.
I was stuck on how to reply, so I didn't. I kind of knew that if my wife were to see it, she wouldn't be pleased. However I don't think 31F meant much by the post. Well, my wife eventually saw it, assumed she was hitting on me, and said she was embarrassed as the whole group would assume something was going on. There was also an undercurrent of suspicion in her questions about the post.
I am stuck on what to do. Do I do nothing and say she's over reacting? Is she overreacting? Do I apologize for something out of my control? I am looking for a good strategy forward with my wife
TL;DR - I got a compliment from another woman, and my wife is angry and suspicious. What should I do, if anything?
