My (29F) husband (32M) and I have been together for more than 12 years now and have been married for 11. We got together when we were at University and got married early and have 2 kids.
He's always loved to drink (alcohol) since we were Young but that was never an issue as drinking didn't change him in any way.
However for the last couple of years he's become a bit of an addict or a compulsive drinker(can't stop till there's nothing left in the house) and this has really had a bad impact on our lives. Sober, he's the kindest, most gentle and loving person ever.
However lately, after having a couple of drinks he gets really violent and abusive.
This started a few years ago and even though after going through hell, the physical abuse has stopped for the past couple of months ( he's been trying to stop so goes 2-3 months without drinking at a time.. then drinks for a week or so and stops again), the verbal abuse hasn't gotten any better. It's the same repeated thing over and over again.
He knows what he does isn't him and he's always apologetic the next day, but I'm not sure how much longer I can manage this way.
Looking for some advice from anyone who's dealt with something similar ? Has anyone else been through the same thing ?
