Obvious throwaway: Together for 2yrs, friends for 4yrs before that. As a single bachelor, my BF Steve used to cyber with a bunch of girls online through multiple apps and sites. One of those contacts found out his real info and has been stalking him ever since (4-5yrs now?). I don't know if it's a girl (because you never know) but let's assume so to make the pronouns easy.
When we first got together, I had recently ended a long and difficult relationship. It wasn't mutual, but respectful enough. Almost immediately, Steve started getting fake texts from "my ex's buddy" who threatened to kick his ass and damage his car. It is impossible for that message to come from anyone related to me or my ex (everyone was so glad for the breakup), but she knew the car make and model. I don't know if she is aware of the breakup, I assumed it was a coincidence.
Then he got several messages for the next year or longer where she threatened to reveal herself to me and ruin his life. He keeps ignoring and blocking every number that shows up.
Last year, she created a fake profile with his name and photo, and started to send friend requests to real people Steve knows. He only out when his boss sent a message not sure what to make of the request. Steve reported the profile to FB and it was blocked.
In the last week, my phone has been blowing up with spam texts. Didn't happen before, but it is happening now. Today I get a message from some girl claiming she's sexting Steve right now (the same Steve who is sitting fully-clothed next to me eating breakfast). Then, she starts to send screenshots of their cyber sessions and threatens to send to all of Steve's family.
She doesn't want anything specific, just to "ruin his life". He doesn't even know who it is, but we don't think it's anyone who lives locally. This was annoying at best before, but now the girl is escalating to a new level and I'm concerned about how far she'll go. I can't track her or do anything specifically to her, so instead, how do we protect ourselves?
TL;DR: BF's sexting past is back to haunt him, stalker-style.
