Have you ever ended up in a relationship with someone you waited for until they were “ready”?

We have amazing connection and chemistry - like truly exceptional - and we’ve become close over a period of about 9 months. Both expressed the desire for a meaningful relationship with each other, but they say they need time to feel ready for partnership, as they still have wounds that are healing from a past relationship. I’ve dated plenty and I know that this is a special connection and there are a number of tangible reasons why we would work really well together. I don’t have desire to date anyone else, but we haven’t committed to anything.

Question to you all: have you ever been in a similar situation? How did it work out? How did you manage your feelings? Would you do it all over again, regardless of how things worked out?

I’m being patient and supportive because I know that there’s no point in forcing anything. But it’s really hard. For context, we are both adults over 40 (me 43F, him 55M) who have both been in long term committed relationships in the past.

TIA!!

TL;DR: waiting for someone to be ready and it’s starting to hurt my heart. Can you relate? How did it work out for you?
