Hey guys,
I have a genuine dilemma here with an ex of 6 years.
We broke around a year ago, have remained friends, lived together during lockdown and really still respect each other as friends. We still keep in contact via text and catch up irregularly.
The issue that I have is that I've started seeing an old friend with who I have had a few previous experiences romantically, obviously before said ex. To be clear, we never had contact during the time I was with my ex, it was just a rekindling of a old friendship. She was never an issue in our relationship in any respect and we'd never had sex before recent times.
My dilemma is whether I should feel the need to tell me ex girlfriend. On one hand, I feel I owe it to her to have the respect to tell her that I've started seeing this friend seriously, since she knows who she is and I have mentioned that we have caught up since then.
On the other hand, I'm aware that my love life may not be an issue for her (she initiated the breakup) and telling her something like this could come across as sharing info that isn't necessarily relevant to her current situation.
Genuinely perplexed by with one. I have one mate who is telling me I should send her a text to tell her respectfully about the situation in a casual way, since we have mutual close friends and I don't want it to get back to her through others.
On the other the other hand, I have a mate who is saying i should wait until it comes up organically, even if i push the point himself to bring up the topic, whether it be in person, or via text/call. I'm not sure whether me texting her about this is me telling her something in which, what I'm assuming, won't be be a big issue for her anymore.
We're properly split here. Do I text her and let her know of the situation or do I wait to let her know in a more organic way as to not make it weird.
Would love to hear everyone's thoughts to solve this debate.
TL;DR: Should I tell my ex girlfriend of 6 years, who I'm still friends with, about my new flame.
