I (25M) left my girlfriend (22F) on the side of the road after she abused me and almost caused me to wreck. Any advice on how to handle things going forward?

My girlfriend and I were driving back from visiting a town a little ways away from us this past weekend. We had just went there for the day and were coming back that evening. She has been known to overreact at times but she has never really done anything abusive. While I was driving I let her hold and use my phone for directions. While she had it she saw a text come up. It was from a coworker that is a woman. She freaked out and asked me what I had been doing texting another girl. I explained that she was someone from work and that we really only text about work stuff. The text that came in was even about work. She told me she didn’t like that. She scrolled back through our conversations and found a message I sent to her that was a selfie of me with the project I completed. She flipped out.

At this point she was yelling and screaming at me. I was trying to talk but couldn’t. Next thing I noticed I see her hand at my face. She got me pretty good. I swerved when it happened and ended up going off the road. My mouth was bleeding a little bit. Luckily I didn’t hit anything. I asked what was going on. She cursed at me and told me to get back on the road so I can get her home. I couldn’t really take it anymore so I told her to get out of the car. I couldn’t drive someone around who was going to put both of our lives in danger. I told her that I can pay get her an Uber and wait but that she wasn’t riding with me. She yelled more and said that she is not riding with an Uber. She tried to get back in but I locked the doors. I drove off shortly after. It was dark outside so I did feel bad for leaving her. I tried to text her but got no responses. She finally texted a long and mean message saying that her parents picked her up.

Since that I have gotten ugly messages from her, her parents, her friends, and even my parents. Everyone seems to think I was in the wrong here. I don’t feel like I was as she put us both in danger and I even offered to get her an Uber. What should I do now? Should I apologize to her? Is this relationship over or is it worth it at all to try to figure things out? What should I do about everyone else? Am I actually in the wrong here? I don’t want to be the bad guy here but I’m scared that I might be.

TL;DR- my girlfriend punched me and I left her on the road.
