My mom [51F] kicked me [18M] out of the house because I wanted to transfer out of university to go to a community college, and filed in a missing persons report the next day?

[M18] I hate that I’m writing any of this, since all of it is just really stupid. I came home from university to stay with my parents, since they moved to a new area close to me once I graduated.

My mom asked me how school was, to which I replied and said that it was fine, but I would rather move back to Chicago to live with my grandparents and attend a CC since it costs much less (I’m predicted to have at least $83,000 in student debt). For some context, I never wanted to attend this university in the first place, since it was ridiculously expensive. I had much cheaper options within my state, but my mom kept threatening to disown me if I chose a school within Chicago (she has bad blood with a lot of family members and overall hates the city environment). I told her “fine, but if it’s going to be that way then I’m just going to take a gap year while you guys move.” While I was asleep, she paid the tuition deposit so I could attend the school she wanted me to go to.

I decided to attend the school since I felt bad that she spent $1,000 of my dad’s money, and I didn’t want to throw it in the ocean. So, I attend the school, and it’s okay I guess. I come back for Thanksgiving Break and my mom asks how I’m doing at the school.

I told her it was alright, but I’d rather go to a city college so I wouldn’t be drowning in student debt. This led to a huge argument where she was telling me ridiculous things such as that she didn’t want me “going to school with low-income minorities” or “end up being in pornos since I couldn’t find a real job from CC.” I can’t really go to CC while I’m living with my mom, since she’s very mentally unstable.

I lost my cool after that and told her that she was mentally ill, and she snapped and kicked me out of the house. She kicked me out while I was wearing a hoodie and shorts with nothing else, and unluckily for me it was 20 degrees out.

I probably roamed around for about a day until a cop found me in another town, saying that my parents were worried. He ended up driving me back home to which I found my mother crying, and my dad laughing his ass off (which I thought was funny too, im actually really cool with my dad and it’s nice to know that he thought this whole thing was a waste of time too).

I haven’t talked to my mom since that night, but I really just want to be back at school. All of this was really stupid and a huge waste of time. This whole story just sounds like a terrible angsty-teen film, and I don’t want any part in contributing more to this situation.

Should I just get a train ticket and stay back at my university for the rest of break?

tl;dr - mom kicked me out because i wanted to move in with my grandparents back home to attend community college as university was too expensive, she kicked me out for around two days until she called the police and filed me in for a missing persons report
