My husband and I have been together 5 years snd married 2 years. I (27) have pretty bad anxiety, especially lately. I’m struggling to get my husband (31) to understand how upset being tickled makes me. It triggers me really bad if I’m ever tickled. Makes me feel sick to my stomach and like my whole body has pins and needles. If I’m tickled I will feel stressed for awhile after and just on edge. I think it’s related to childhood trauma. Since the start of our relationship I have told him I don’t like being tickled. He generally is pretty good at not doing it, but every now and then he will tickle me and I get upset. He will also sometimes accidentally touch me by my armpit and that upsets and stresses me out and he seems to get annoyed. Like I know it’s a mistake but It really upsets me a lot. I don’t think he really understands or gets that it is serious for me and that I can’t control my response. I get flooded with anxiety if he even gets close to my armpits, I start to hyperventilate. I think he thinks it’s silly and that I’m just not a fan of it. Sometimes, he will playfully threaten to tickle me if I’m doing something wrong. I don’t think he fully understands that that upsets and scares me. To me it’s as bad as if he was threatening to hit me, it sends that same panic response through me. I have told him I hate being tickled and that it upsets me, but it just doesn’t seem to get through to him how severely it affects me. I just need some advice on how to explain it to him better, so that he can understand how it is making me feel.
TLDR: my husband triggers me by tickling me and I don’t know how to explain to him how upset it makes me.
