My(30) grandmother(late 70s) has dementia and I could really use some advice from someone who’s experienced this with a loved one.

Okay, I usually just lurk but I figured this would be the best place to find advice. My grandpa died about a month ago so my mom, aunt, and my uncle have taken up ‘shifts’ staying and spending the nights with her because she can no longer be alone. They work, of course, so whenever possible, I stay with her during the daytime. Y’all, I just want to make it clear that I’d move mountains for this woman. I was her first grandchild and have always been the ‘favorite’. She practically raised me, like I never knew I could love someone as much as I do my nana.

However, my dilemma is her sudden mood changes and when she tells me she wants to go home. Mind you, she still lives in the same house she always has the last few decades but now she doesn’t see it as her real home, if that makes any sense. She’ll want me to help her pack and take her wherever ‘home’ is. Usually I try to steer the conversation in a different direction but it doesn’t always work. She’ll get sullen and start crying and talking to someone, I don’t know who, and keep saying she wants to go home.

Is there a better way for me to handle this situation?

TLDR; nana has dementia
