My boyfriend (21M) and I (20F) have been together for 4+ years, we have a child (2F) together and refer to each other as husband/wife constantly.
Recently, my boyfriend got himself a motorcycle, despite my worry about them (which I expressed thoroughly and repeatedly). He is also a mechanic, which can be a very dangerous job.
We had previously decided to wait on marriage as we will avoid the “married couples penalty” on our taxes and were pretty much married anyways. Both of our names are on our bills, our house, etc.
I asked if we could get legally married, in case something happens to one of us. The other one will be stable and not have to worry about finances or belongings if one of us passes.
He thinks I’m trying to marry him for his money.
Tldr: my boyfriend thinks I’m marrying for money, really just trying to plan for the unforeseeably future.
Edit: we have been engaged for almost 2 years and have always planned to get married. I also asked about getting our wills done and he was also upset by this suggestion.
