My (29M) girlfriend of 3 years (29F) has developed bipolar type 2

Hey all, I’m in a sticky situation and would love some thoughts and opinions to help me sort out my feelings.

My girlfriend of 3 yrs who has always been quite anxious and mild depression was told by her psychiatrist that she’s showing the traits of bipolar type 2. The repercussions of this is that in years to come she becomes more depressed and reliant on me. Her way of coping at present is wanting to hug whilst crying/sleep regularly.

This wouldn’t be so bad if it were the only thing in my life requiring an increasing amount of attention over time as I do indeed love and want to take care of her. I already have a brother with severe autism who I care for 1/3 of the time (shared between family), as well as doing my training as a surgical dr.

I feel like I’m always having to care for those around me and to find this out makes me really uncertain if we can/should have kids together if I don’t have a teammate who can help meet me 50/50. As a result I’m trying to work out if I’ll burn out emotionally.

It’s impossible to know what he future holds but for those who have a partner with depression - does it tend to stay the same in terms of emotional dependency or get worse as we get older?

TL;DR: multiple dependents in life, girlfriend diagnosed with type 2 bipolar - trying to work out if I’ll emotionally burn out
