My (21M) former girlfriend (20F) of nearly two years lied about being pregnant. I can't get any explanation out of her and just can't understand why.

I (M21) recently broke up with my girlfriend (20F) of nearly two years after she lied about being pregnant. I picked her up from a doctor's appointment several months ago, we went out to dinner and she broke the news that she was pregnant. I was excited by the news. Fast forward ~four months and she wasn't showing a bump in the slightest, so I asked her what was going on. After several hours arguing, she finally admitted to me that she wasn't actually pregnant. She led me along for four months believing that she was carrying a child - even going baby shopping for clothes and such. I broke up with her almost instantly. However, I still have not been able to get any explanation from her as to why she decided to create this whole charade. She changed the subject every time I asked. I am curious if anyone has been in a similar situation and may have some insight. I am so unbelievably sad because of this news, it feels almost the same is if she was really pregnant and miscarried.

TL;DR: Girlfriend lied about being pregnant and refuses to explain why.
