How do I [32f] talk to my husband [33m] - I think he is experiencing psychosis or similar and needs medical intervention.

I know this might be out of reddit's league but I don't even know where to start. Just happened.

My husband had a traumatic abusive childhood, he has a severe disease, so he has always had chronic pain and mental illness. I've been with him since we were 19ish.

In the past, drugs for depression have made him suicidal and he has a history of adverse or opposite reactions to medications. He has a very complicated medical history and doctors can't keep up with it, it's an ongoing problem, they misdiagnose or make bad drug RXs that are dangerous or even just don't believe him. He has been mishandled by therapists as well. And they take aaalllll our money because this is America. Suffice it to say he is very disillusioned with doctors and doesn't trust them at all.

His mental health has been going down hill for a long time. He is very depressed because he can't do any of his hobbies or work because of his physical disabilities. He has 0 friends and his abusive family has been 100% cut off for a few years now.

Today he told me a story about the FBI talking to him and tracking him his whole life. They like him a lot, and he helped them. It's peppered with grandiose stories about his intelligence and how he has helped catch bad guys by reporting them to the FBI and how he is just now remembering he actually did have people who liked and cared about him as a teen. The kicker was the FBI (in 2007) told him they were trying to "fix the timeline in 2020." Presumably with time travel. He did say she "might have been just fucking with me." He also claims to have predicted the news events of this week specifically and expects that the FBI may visit us this week because of that. He says his trauma had him blocking it out but that it came back to him this week.

This was all introduced to me with the express concern that I wouldn't believe him and the pain of not having been believed ever in the past. He said he told me this before and I didnt believe him and blocked it out or didn't remember because I was drinking.

He also told me that I destroyed a particularly precious possession (in 2007) of his while drunk (which he says I've forgotten) in a story that has details that don't line up with reality as I remember it. This is very, very hurtful to me.

I have never seen this from him before and it's shocking.

He is twice my size and very strong, but he is also easily hurt because of his disability. Basically he could kick anyone's ass in a fight but then be bed ridden for a month with injuries. Part of his disease as well is that he does not heal from injuries. One of his symptoms has been anger too. For these reasons I don't think any kind of physical confrontation with any authorities or involuntary committal will be smart. He also has a complicated treatment regime I don't trust an institution to take seriously or do correctly. We've worked in institutions before and know how fucked up they are, even the good ones.

He's really smart, and medically savvy. And he's not acting paranoid, worried or in any way that makes me think he's a danger or panicky. He just told me the story, like a normal person would with a real story.

I'm wondering if this is something I can get him to go to a doctor about but obviously it's a touchy situation. This is sounding like psychosis to me, something an antipsychotic might help, though I'm totally unqualified to make that call.

Friggin help. I fucking wish this was a joke.

Tl;dr : Husband is physically disabled and depressed. Today out of the blue he has a psychotic story about helping the FBI and time travel. He has 0 trust in doctors, rightfully so, how do I get him help safely?
