I’ve (19f) been with my boyfriend (21m) for almost 8 months. It’s important to mention here he is a great boyfriend, loving, thoughtful, etc. I’m quite active on social media, I enjoy getting nice pics and videos of myself. Boyfriend isn’t, and doesn’t really get the hype. However we met on instagram, so he knew how I dressed/posted from the get go. I personally feel like I dress like most girls my age but I’m quite curvy and maybe it looks more sexualized on me. This week I went to a birthday party that was Ibiza themed. I was wearing a neon green playsuit that zipped up at the chest. I made a tiktok with my friends in which we did a popular dance and I noticed my zip had come down (basically imagine a low neckline but no nipple). We were all laughing about this in the video and I uploaded it. Boyfriend saw it a couple days later and messaged me to tell me it wasn’t classy. Fair enough, but I found the message irritating and told him I don’t like him continuously commenting on the way I dress (we’ve had this kind of conversation before). I know he doesn’t like when I wear shorts or revealing tops, but I find it very insecure and annoying that he feels that way. We got into a massive argument about the tiktok, where he essentially was going to break up with me because he said I shouldn’t have posted it out of respect for him. I agreed initially to change the way I dressed/posted online because I don’t want to lose him but now I’m thinking back on it and I want to know if that is normal? He was so angry and honestly it really put me off him the way he was speaking to me. Is it normal for a man to want his girlfriend to cover up? Is it something I should put up with since the rest of my relationship is great? It feels like an invasion of my freedom but I want an outsiders opinion.
tldr: boyfriend doesn’t like me wearing revealing clothes and will break up with me if I don’t change the way I dress/post online
