Sorry if formatting is poor, I’m on mobile. My boyfriend, who I’ve been with for a little under a year, invited me on a vacation to another country back in July. We talked about the trip, where we’d go, everything we’d do, etc. He had a day long event to attend there (initial primary reason for going), that he invited me along to. We planned on staying for two weeks.
This is a vacation in another country where I’ve never been and he knows I’ve always wanted to go. A few months ago, maybe early November, he dropped the bomb on me I wasn’t actually invited to the event because he couldn’t get a plus one. This is one day of what would have been our two week trip. I figured I could explore by myself for the day, but instead he just said I wasn’t invited anymore. This is after we were discussing flight details, right before booking. I was initially really hurt, but over the last few weeks I’d mostly come to terms with it.
The problem is he left a few days ago and I’m feeling resentful seeing photos of his vacation. I’ve spoken about this with a few of my friends and they were all shocked I was okay with him still going and were also wondering why he would cancel the trip on my end altogether, just because I couldn’t go to the event. Which only validates my feelings.
Our relationship is otherwise great and I don’t have a reason to think he’s cheating over there, but now I’m starting to think it’s kind of sketchy. I also feel like it was really inconsiderate to dangle this in front of me and then take it away. Do you think I’m overreacting? Should I be worried?
TLDR; bf(30M) invites me(26F) on dream vacation and then tells me I can’t go anymore after months of planning, but still goes himself
Edit: for further context(while trying not to give too much detail here), this was a family event. I’ve considered the possibility he might find it awkward to invite me around extended family after not being invited to event. But this is in Europe, and he is visiting multiple countries solo, so it is not like he is spending copious amounts of time with them. I have also FaceTimed with multiple members of this family with him, and i don’t think he’s embarrassed/feels differently about bringing me around them. If anything he’s tried to make our relationship more serious recently, which is even more confusing.
