My (35F) new boss (40M) is extremely insecure and emotionally reactive. Everyone knows this about him, but since I started working under him it’s gotten so much worse.
He will come over to my desk and ask what I’m working on. When I tell him, and explain the details, he then says, “Well, we ALL have things we’re dealing with right now.” Essentially he’s saying, “It’s not about YOU and YOUR problems”.
Well, then, why the hell did you come over and ask me what I’m doing if whatever I say you’re just going to shoot down and act like I’m bragging about how hard I have it or something?! He acts like everything I say is to “prove” that I’m better than him or have it worse than him. He can’t seem to grasp that I’m my own person with my own experiences. He has to make literally everything about him.
Sometimes I feel like quitting just to get away from him. I feel like he’s trying to erase me, to strip me of everything so that everything revolves around him.
TLDR: New boss is an immature child who can’t stand it when anything is about me
