We were having a night out as a group of friends, drinking and such. Some are close friends, some are just buddies, and my girlfriend of 4 months was there too.
We decided to go to a different pub after a while, so I went to the bar to pay my tab.
Some of them were getting their jackets, some were out smoking, with a few left at the table.
When I went back to our table I immediately noticed my girlfriend was tense.
Other people of our group started to leave the pub, but the two of us stayed back for a minute, so we can talk.

Seriously what's wrong? I can see something's up

Carl slapped me.

He did WHAT?!

Jokingly, "playfully", but he did slap me out of nowhere. Nobody ever slapped me

What the living hell? How? Why? What? What happened?

Nothing happened, it came out of nowhere. It was a light slap on the cheek. I'm just stunned.
At this point I was outraged, so I went out to Carl, and asked him sternly what the hell happened. He said he was just playing around, and he didn't mean it like that, and he will apologize. I told him this is not OK, and he should apologize. And so he did.
The more I think about it the more furious I get.
I didn't want to start a fight, and my girlfriend says just drop it, an apology is enough... But this behavior just seems so disrespectful and outrageous to me.
They don't even know each other. They met like 3 times tops. Hell, even I'm not that close to Carl.
One of my closer friends, James, witnessed it, and he was laughing. I asked him what happened, and James was just not taking us seriously.
We did move on both literally and figuratively, but I still feel angry whenever I remember it. The gall of it!
Once the guys witnessed me and my GF arguing, and I somehow sense they just don't respect her much after that. Or at least not the same.
Is an apology enough?
Am I overreacting?
Honestly, I am more disappointed in James than Carl. I told them to respect her like she was me, or even more since she is a lady. And none of them ever would playfully slap my face. And I feel this kind of thing would not happen in my presence.
TLDR: A buddy of mine jokingly slapped my girlfriend. We were stunned and outraged. He apologized.
