Ok so this is an ongoing issue between me and my partner and keeps coming up. This is the most recent argument.
He’s been at his current job for six months and in the original interview his now boss told him “we’ll do a pay review after 3 months and see where you’re at”.
In the previous 3 months he has had a few weeks/a month off because it is a labour intensive job and his back has been giving him a tonne of issues ie sciatica, spasms, nerve pain etc (He has had back issues previously over the years). Partner has been raging about this verbal contract over the past 3-4 months and my take is that while he is a good worker he can be quite quick to anger if he feels hard done by and when we’ve spoken about this over time my stance is while he may feel he deserves a raise, his boss may feel different. He feels unsupported because I stated that a verbal contract is probably not enforceable and there may not be anything he can do.
I am not trying to be unsupportive because I want him to be happy and get everything he deserves but I don’t want to just blindly agree with him because I think that is much less helpful to just tell him what he wants to hear, ( we have had this argument many times about different things where I disagree with him).
I try to be careful with my words and not be hurtful but no matter what I say but unless I agree with him, he says I am unsupportive. Not sure where to go from here, any advice on how to be more supportive while not compromising my own thoughts/beliefs would be much appreciated!
TLDR: partner says I am unsupportive because I won’t lie to him and blindly agree
