I[27M] asked my mom[59F] about some pictures I found in some albums I looked through.

I knew they were pictures of my father, due to conversations from my childhood with her and from the descriptions other family members gave me throughout the years.

I simply asked if there were pictures of the two of them in the albums I went through, when I went looking for a birthday present for a family member. She confirmed that there were pictures of the two of them, but never specified which ones, and got upset about it all. I didn't have them laid out in front of us when I asked fyi.

However, beforehand I did compile the set of pictures into a folder to just keep 'em "safe" so she wouldn't sully them in any shape of form. I seriously want to at least search for my father to see who or where he is. I have no intention of contacting him or involving myself in his life.

However my mother was firm and withholding when I mentioned I wanted to see who the man he has become. Should I further my investigation despite my mother's wishes or leave things as they are and continue no further? I need your help figuring out if I should have left things alone.

TL;DR: I dug up some old pictures of my father/mother and asked her about them which upset her, what do I do going forward?

EDIT: She told me long ago that my father was a tugboat captain from England who didn't know anything until when she called him back in the states. He decided then and there that it would be best the cut contact with one another and he didn't want anything to do with her, and that was the end of it.
