Not your average who pays (or maybe I'm over thinking it.)
We've been dating a little over 3 years, and our largest and most obvious issue has always been finances. Our incomes are very, very different. He makes exactly 2.5x as much as I do (well over 6 figures), and I'm struggling to make ends meet. Obviously we've talked about this, and he's insisted that he's fine eating out as much as I'm able to afford, and at places I can afford to split at. At first this seemed okay, but I can't help feeling sad that he doesn't want to treat me even a little, especially when he can easily afford to.
Another aspect is I come from a background where whoever makes more usually offers to pay, especially for things like nice dinners and random activities outside (movies etc). This isn't necessarily the man's job, just a general "whichever partner makes more should pay more" mindset. I've been in previous relationships where I've paid more because whoever I was dating was out of work.
Is this something we can work on? Has anyone else been in a similar situation?
TL;DR My boyfriend makes 2.5x as much as me and wants to split everything 50/50, when I'm also financially struggling. Thoughts?
