Hi everyone. I'm here because I don't know what to do and I don't know if this is something that I shouldn't be sharing with our friends that know us personally. So my gf and I have been together for 9 months and we couldn't be going stronger. It's the best relationship I've ever been in by a long shot. Other than a few minor tangles that have been resolved, we have had no issues thus far.
Now, she is currently staying in my apartment for the summer with me and my roommate. Our other roommate was out of state for the summer, so we had an extra space. She lived in our school dorms this past year so she needed somewhere to stay this summer, and I offered up his room.
My girlfriend is pretty private, so I know she is going to be mad about this. I went into her closet because the guy who normally lives there has some nice hiking shoes that I wanted to borrow for a hike the next day. I went into the closet (gf was not home) and I smelled an odor. It was faint but super funky- like rotting food. So I looked around trying to find the source. I find a backpack that she never uses that is shoved in the back corner. and open it up to see if she accidntally left old food in there or something. Sure enough, I opened it, and I was right: there was spoiled food in there, but it wasn't some old sandwich. The bag was filled with a shitton of spoiled, old food. Basically a weeks worth. I recognized meals that we have had at the apartment, like a salad my roommate made us all or takeout. The smell was overwhelming and I almost puked. This is going to sound really odd, but some of that food looked chewed up.
I am so confused and have no idea how to even bring this up to her???? My guess was that she really hated my roommate's cooking (he makes all the meals, if he doesnt make something we usually eat out) and didn't want to say anything. She has issues with social anxiety so I thought maybe....But......that doesn't really make sense considering there was fast food that she ordered herself in there. And why on Earth would she keep it???? Any longer and the smell will probably start seeping through the closet soon. I zipped the bag up and put it exactly where it was so that she doesn't know it was messed with. I considered not saying anything but this is too weird to not bring up. Help!!!!!!!!
tl;dr: my gf is hiding a backpack full of spoiled food in her closet and idk what this means or how to bring it up.
