tl;dr Older boyfriend refuses to even pay his part at dinners and embarrasses girlfriend in front of family members.
This is a post for my friend because she doesn’t have reddit but she wants outside views.
She’s currently dating a 37 year old that she meant at work. He works in a different department. We will call him John and her Jessica.
So John insisted on meeting Jessica’s grandmother because her grandmother is extremely important to her. She agrees and they plan to take the grandmother out to dinner. They make a plan for this past Friday.
Friday comes around and he shows up to pick her up. She lives in with her parents while she’s in a very expensive law school. Her dad answers the door and is immediately pissed. This guy shows up in board shorts, a plain tee and flip flops. TO GO TO A NICE DINNER TO MEET HER GRANDMA FOR THE FIRST TIME. Her dad is also very traditional and immediately disliked him.
Then they go to dinner. He’s on his phone during dinner which pisses Jessica off and makes her grandma uncomfortable. Then when the bill comes, he hands off it to Jessica. Doesn’t offer to split it, doesn’t offer to pay his part, just hands it off to her. Mind you, he makes over 70k a year and she’s a part time worker in law school. So she just pays it. Leaves a terrible impression on the grandmother.
Next, on Sunday, John and Jessica go to a car show with her little brother (19). John brings up getting food during car show so they do. They eat and the bill comes. Yet again, the bill comes, he looks at it and just put it down. Jessica asked if he wanted to split it. He said “no, it’s up to you.” But DOESNT OFFER TO PAY IT. And then her brother offers to pay it and does. Her brother is 19, in community college and also works part time. THIS MOTHERFUCKER, JOHN, WHO MAKES AT LEAST 70K DOESNT EVEN OFFER TO PAY.
Not only that, later she finds out he was supposed to pick up his best friend at the airport before they got food but instead left his friend stranded at the airport for two hours.
Her mom invited him to thanksgiving dinner and she’s freaking out because she doesn’t want him to embarrass her. So she doesn’t know what to do.
So my question is should she break up with him? I think she should. He acts like a 17 year old, not a 37 year old. Or should she give him another chance?
