Boss (F60s) told my coworker (M30) and myself (F30) that because we are exempt employers we should not be leaving on time
My coworker and I were hired at the same time. It’s been about 6 months. We have not been told anything with regards to performance, and both him and I come on time and leave on time.
My boss talked to us a few days ago and said it’s not good that both him and I leave exactly at 6, and we need to wait 5/10 before heading out..and her verbatim words were “ you are exempt employees so you do not abide by a 40hr work week”
We have stayed back when needed, I’ve not taken full lunch breaks due to work loads, or I’ve come in earlier/stayed later to finish things ect. So I did find it a bit unnerving for some reason when she told us this.
It’s been a pattern where she constantly says “ we can work you as much as we need you don’t abide by a 40 hour work week”
It’s very odd. I understand what exempt means....but her attitude just rubs me the wrong way.
I did not really know what to say, but that conversation really made me feel a bit upset.
What do you guys think? Should I leave it alone or do i mention something if the opportunity presents itself?
TL:DR- Boss tells coworker and I we should not leave on time because we are exempt employees.
