Hi, I’m 31f, with a daughter 3f. My husband died when I was pregnant. We lived together in Manitoba. Before my daughter was born I moved back to Alberta to be near my family for support. It was the best decision, I was able to buy a house with his life insurance money (no mortgage) a couple blocks from my parents, who have been really helpful with my daughter.
I understand his mom 59f was upset when we moved, she lost her son, and I can’t even imagine how hard that must have been. I try to involve her as much as possible, I invited her to Alberta after the birth. The year my daughter was born I took her for 3 trips (week long each) to visit her grandparents. (I was on mat leave so had the time). Since then I’ve done one week long trip each summer. I do work now, so I can’t go 3 times in a year like I did the first year.
I have also told her she can come visit us, and stay with us anytime as long as she gives me a month or so notice. She has only come once.
I send her pics everyday and the odd video.
She keeps trying to guilt me, always asking when we’re coming for another visit, how she misses my daughter and it’s not fair that my parents are so involved in her life when she isn’t. I have told her we will come for a week in the summer and reiterated that she can also come to us. I’m at my wits end and find myself avoiding her calls. Any advice?
Tl:dr. Mil 59f making me feel guilty she doesn’t see my daughter 3f more since we live near my 31f parents since my husband died. I’ve tried being rational but don’t know what to do going forward.
