TL;DR: Boyfriend doesn’t want to see my family anymore after he didn’t go to Thanksgiving and I don’t know what to do.
I’ve been dating my boyfriend for almost 3 years and we moved in together a couple of months ago. Everything has been really great and I love being with him. He does suffer from pretty bad anxiety though, which I understand and do my best to try to make things easier for him in regards to that. We had plans to go over to my sister’s for Thanksgiving with her, her husband, my dad, my brother, and my sister in law. The day of he woke up and was really withdrawn and crabby. He wouldn’t really engage with me and I could tell he was in one of his “moods.” I asked him if he was coming with me to Thanksgiving like we planned or not and he said he wasn’t going. I was frustrated and left without him. I told my sister he wasn’t coming because we were kind of upset with each other and she said to call him because she thought he should be here with everyone. I called him and basically begged him to come but he refused and said it didn’t think it’d be a good idea. It was a whole thing and I was pretty upset. Now, a couple weeks later my sister invited us to go out to dinner. He said no. I asked him if he’d ever see my family again and he said he wasn’t prepared to answer that, which makes it seem like it’s a no. I know he’s probably anxious about how they think about him after Thanksgiving, but every time I bring up that it’s fine, he completely shuts down. I love him and I love my family and I really want those two parts of my life to coincide. I just don’t know how to keep making excuses to my family about him not showing up anymore.
