I (30f) hate my best friend (29f) and want to cut her off but am afraid of retaliation. How to get rid of her?

Tl;dr: “Friend” of 20 years is cruel, abusive, vindictive, and a pathological liar. Want to cut her off but the last time someone did she sued them- costing them two years and 20k. How do I get rid of her without retaliation?

Known each other since we were little. She’s beautiful, brilliant, rich, successful, and in a happy relationship. She’s been a great friend in some ways- like, she once gifted me several thousand dollars when I was broke and was so lovely about it. But she’s always been kind of crazy. When we were in school she’d make up lies about me, like that I’d slept with some guy, and when it would come back to me she’d say everyone was out to get her and how could I betray her by believing them and that I was a bad friend. We’d repeat this every few months for years. We stayed in close touch until our mid twenties when she called my husband “a peasant” and I said, “that’s a shitty thing to say.” She spent weeks harassing me, posting social media messages about how I was abusing her loyalty, emailing me that I was spreading lies about her (she was the only person I talked to about it) and finally saying that the stress was making her “recently-diagnosed MS worse.” She doesn’t have MS. Now she claims to have some other disease but I can’t remember which one. I had a miscarriage recently and she actually laughed when I told her and then went, “that’s terrible.” Later when I said I had a hard time understanding how she could laugh she told me she had had her second miscarriage that morning. This was after her telling me that she was going to break up with her boyfriend because he wants kids and she’s 100% not interested. She also used to say she’d had to have a radical hysterectomy after a botched cancer removal so god knows which is true. Anyway, there’s so much more but we just haven’t been really friends for so long- she’s not like a real person. Everything is a lie or a facade and I’m just done. But the thing is - I pulled back and she left me alone for a while but then started sending me pieces of torn up clothing with angry messages written on them about how could I abandon her when her father is dying (he’s fine- I’m friendly with her mom) and she’s had five more miscarriages. I told her I’m not mad st her I just need distance and she’s now sending me love song lyrics and posting on social media about how much we love each other (I have her blocked but a friend told me.) so here’s the issue- I want to just tell her to leave me alone forever but the one person who did do that to her, she SUED FOR DAMAGES. She ended up dropping it but bragged that it cost the person st least 20k to defend. So she’s filthy rich, really smart, insane, and vindictive. I’m an idiot for ever being friends with her but now I want out and she scares me. What do I do?
