My (m34) wife (f34) (married 4 years together 10) has always been bad at budgeting. I'm also pretty bad and created a budget spreadsheet to help us manage our finances. June 21 she had $3,000 on her credit card and our budget looked to pay that off by November. I've just found out the card now has $4,800 on it and she doesn't understand why I'm upset or why it's an issue.
I think she has been paying it off, she's just also putting everything else on the card (saved to ebay, Uber eats, Google wallet) so that everytime she makes an online purchase it's on the cc, and she only does our minimum budgeted repayments (unsure if they're happening regularly).
I've suggested she request a new card, transfer over her regular bills (gym and so on), cancel the old card and use her debit card moving forward. However she's against this idea.
To be clear we can afford to pay it off, but looking back it's an ongoing issue and I'm afraid she'll just build up a debt again..
I'd appreciate advice on how to talk through it with her.
tl:dr Wife built up credit card debt instead of paying it off, doesn't see an issue and isn't interested in changing her spending habits.
