Something is just off and I can't quite put my hand on what.
She's 15 and really damn smart. We're very close, I think of her as a little sister. Everybody in the family is very protective of her. I'll call her Clover here.
So, Clover is very close to her parents too. They're her world. Her father, my uncle, and her mother, they're very open minded about pretty much but when it comes to her safety, they're very strict. Her mother had a difficult and traumatic birth and it messed with my uncle and his wife but also with everyone else. I mean, I only found out I had a dad, an uncle and an entire family waiting for me when I was 17. I've always known I was the result of a one night stand but I had done my peace with it because I honestly never believed I'd ever find my dad or my mom. But I'm rambling and the point I'm trying to make is that we are very close and we all love Clover and want to protect her.
She's a bit of a trouble maker. She can't stand injustice and has gotten into fights with bullies at school. She doesn't stand down even when it's some bigger kid trying to punch her. One day she came home with a bloody nose and a broken wrist because this kid was making fun of her friend, who is openly gay.
So I'm just painting a picture here to give some background.
Few weeks ago, she went to this place at the beach with some friends. Well, she went as Clover and came back somone else entirely.
Her friends dropped her off, she greeted us as if it was a forced interaction and said she was tired and was going to sleep. When asked how the trip went, she said it was fine.
We all looked at each other and we just thought maybe she'd had a fight with one of her friends or something.
But weeks have passed and she's been isolating herself, sneaking out of school, getting into even more trouble and fights, and she has this haunted expression on her face. When she's at home, she locks hersef in her room or stares at the tv but she's not watching the damn thing, she's thinking about something.
Her parents are both a little shaken because they were really close and this is the first time she's avoiding them. Yesterday she declined her Dad's offer to go out and get some pizza, something he's always done to cheer her up whenever she was sad. She just said she was going back to her room with a shaky voice.
We don't know what to do. I don't know what to do. She used to tell me everything, used to tell her parents everything. She's always been a rebel, lashes out when provoked, and doesn't really like social interaction except with a few people. With us, she can be downright goofy and funny. To see her so shaken and scared, I think she's scared, I don't know why, but I do and well, to see her like that is heartbreaking.
I'm scared of approaching the subject with her and pushing her away. What should I do?
tl;dr: Cousin went out for a small vacation and came a different person. Something happened there and I don't know what to do.
