My (34M) girlfriend's (28F) 5 year old son is making up stuff when he gets upset and said that I hit him.

My girlfriend and I have been together for a year and a half. We have lived together for 3 months.

Her son and I get along well. We play games, joke around, watch videos and stuff.

When I first moved in he would do this thing where my girlfriend and I would be sitting on the couch together and he would be sitting across the room. And he would just say "ouch (my name) why did you hit/kick/punch/hurt me". Obviously I'm nowhere near him so my girlfriend and I laugh it off. This happened a lot.

That died down, he hasn't done it in a while. But twice now he would get upset, usually because his mom won't give him something, and start whining (not crying).

The first time was after dinner, I was cleaning up the dining room table and he wanted Ice cream. He couldn't have any and he got upset. Him and I were in the room as I cleaned up and then he left. I heard him say my name and when I went in there he was hugging her leg and he kept saying "(my name) pushed me down". She asked what happened and I said I don't know. Because I didn't know what was going on at the time.

Today similar story. Except this time he said "(my name) hit me". I heard him say it. When I went into the kitchen my girlfriend said "what did he do". She believed that I hit him for something when I am 100% against physical punishment. Then I told her that I would never hit anyone. Then she said "maybe he made it up".

A few minutes later the kid is trying to play Minecraft on my phone like nothing happened. The problem is I'm now scared to be around him, Incase he gets upset again. And I'm not sure how many times he can pull this stuff and her not think I actually did it. To make matters worse we have family (girlfriend's parents) staying with us now. I think if they heard it I would be out.

I'm seriously already starting to think about how our relationship could work if I moved out because of this

Tldr; girlfriend's son is saying I hit him when he gets upset. Not sure what to do because I never experienced anything like it
