Posting for a friend: I’ve (F/20s) been friends with Scarlet (F/20s) since college. She has had a rough past few years and our friendship has been a bit rocky. We’ve taken multiple breaks from talking but have usually been able to work it out. I have always tried to be there for her but sometimes her behavior has been a bit too much.
For example for her birthday, she asked myself and two other friends to go to dinner and out drinking afterwards. She spent the entire (expensive) dinner complaining about how this was the worst birthday shes ever had, stabbed the table with her steak knife, terrorized the waiter, broke several water glasses and was in an all around terrible mood. We then went to a bar to meet another friend, Yolanda. Both Scarlet and Yolanda were wearing sheer tops, which Scarlet got very upset about. Then Scarlet got upset again bc Yolanda won at billiards. After the billiards game Scarlet locked herself in the coat room crying. Shortly afterwards she stormed out of the Pool-hall without saying goodbye to anyone. The next morning Scarlet texted me to say that Yolanda ruined her birthday. When I explained that my feelings were hurt given all the money and effort I spent on her birthday Scarlet responded saying she had ‘a great time’ and that she was only upset with Yolanda. I was very confused.
ANYWAYS, I’ve recently gotten engaged and am really very happy. However, Scarlet will not stop texting me about being a bridesmaid. I’m very concerned about how she will react when she finds out that she isn’t. She’s invited to the wedding, but she also seems to expect to be in the wedding. How do I break the news?
TLDR: my slightly unhinged friend thinks she’s a bridesmaid and she’s not, how do I break the news?
