My boyfriend of 4 years cheated on me the first year of our relationship. I did not find out until 2 years in. I felt something was off and checked his phone (I know, I shouldn't have) my suspicions were correct though.
He had been texting his ex begging for her back. Writing her love poems. Saying she was the only person he could ever love. This continued on and I realized even though she kept denying him, she continued to ask about his day and what he was up to. Basically keeping him at a distance.
I broke up with him for about 2 weeks. During those 2 weeks he would show up at my work with flowers apologizing and begging for me back. Saying he can't lose me and he misses me. That he wasn't fully over her and he is now because he fell in love with me blahblahblah. At the time I was having a ton of issues and I didn't have any friends and I honestly just wanted a fucking hug, so I took him back (stupid mistake, I know) it's been another 2 years together and now every time I'm upset or have a little bit of attitude. He jokes that he's texting his ex.
Instance 1: I was angry he wouldn't help me clean (normally he does) his phone dings and I ask if that's fb. He says "no my ex is texting me" and smirks. I looked at him and that's when he knew he fucked up. He said "I'm joking chill" and I tried that one hack where you ask "I don't get it. Explain why it's funny" and he couldn't explain. Just kept saying he was joking and he's sorry and why do I always have to act this way.
? Like what? You purposely made me upset by triggering me and it's shocking I became upset? Now he's angry at me and giving me the silent treatment.
How do I handle this? I'm unsure what to do.
Tl:Dr boyfriend knows the topic of his ex upsets me. Made a joke that she was texting him. (She wasn't) got mad that it upset me? Wtf do I do
