So my (22F) Fiancé (25M) and I recently got a kitten named Cloud. We are currently living in his mom’s(60F) place. She got a better job across the country and is letting us stay here until she retires. One of the rules is that the cat has to be indoor/outdoor. Since Cloud is so young she hasn’t had any vaccines and I won’t let her outside until she does/vet gives the ok (her first visit is in 2 days).
One of the problems is we have Cloud’s safe space set up in the garage. We’re we get it gets to 100+ on a daily basis in the summer. There’s only a ceiling fan installed in the garage. My fiancé and his mom are stubborn and say that leaving Cloud in there all day is fine and won’t harm her because she has the fan and water. However since it’s so hot outside I keep trying to tell them it really is dangerous and we should bring her inside until it cools down at night. They both brushed it off as me trying to make cloud an indoor cat since I really love animals. I’ve tried to tell them about heat stroke and possible dehydration but they won’t listen.
Another issue is my fiancé sees no harm in letting Cloud outside with no vaccines. I keep telling him that it’s dangerous and to just keep her inside until we get the ok from the vet but he brushes it off saying cats are tough and all his cats where fine going outside right away even as kittens. However, all the kittens he got he adopted from shelters and they automatically fix and vaccinate any strays they get in.
As a side note it’s the first day that it’s reached 90+ and I brought the cat inside. My fiancé is at work atm and I’d rather fight then risk her health. My rule of thumb is if it’s too hot for me to handle being in there for more then 10 minutes it’s too hot for her.
How can I get it through my fiancé’s head of these dangers?
TLDR; Fiancé won’t listen about dangers of leaving cat in garage in 100+ degree weather.
