I (33m) have a daughter (5f) and we live in a neighborhood filled with kids of all ages. The neighbors down the street have lots of kids over all of the time, and my daughter is friends with the younger kids that play there. I accompany my daughter when she plays over there, and while she plays with the younger kids, I will play basketball with the older kids. The kids constantly come over to our house and ask if I (and my daughter) will come play with them, so I think the kids like that I play with them. I’ve asked the parents at the house if they minded that I played with the older kids, and they seemed to think it was great.
Is it weird for me to be playing with the neighborhood kids? Other parents don’t play with the neighborhood kids in a group like I do. Sometimes the dad at the house they play at will join, but never anyone else. I really like the kids; I enjoy getting to play with them, and I feel like I generally make it more inclusive and fun. I don’t want to make other parents uncomfortable or be doing something others might think are inappropriate. I don’t care if people think I’m weird/strange.
TL:DR: Should a 33 year old dad be playing with neighborhood kids that aren’t his own child?
