We are visiting my in laws for Easter. After having politics dragged into every conversation for 2 days, I asked my (43f) FIL (76m) to stop. I was telling him about all the great things the organization I work for does for people in his population, and he brought up the migrants and how "they get even more." So I asked him to please stop bringing up politics in every conversation, because I'm feeling uncomfortable and resentful. He okayed me to death and said he'd stop. A few hours later at dinner, he leaned over, out of the blue, and said to my kid (9m) "Have you heard of President Sleepy Joe?". We were all leaving the restaurant anyway, so I left before I said anything because I didn't want to confront him out of anger and respect for the rest of the family. Well now it's the next day and I'm still raging.
My husband (43m) has been put it the middle a lot (not by or about me, by other family situations related to my FIL, which is my FIL's doing) and is begging me not to say anything about this incident because he's tired and it's sad for him. I'm feeling bullied and angry, and want to say something. My husband wants to just move past it for today and leave tomorrow because we're staying with extended family, and I understand his point, but I'm raging and can't get past it because I thought we adressed the issue earlier in the day. This resentment on my part has also been building because of many other issues, so this may be a last straw situation for me, family or unfairly, I can't tell any more. Is it worth saying something? It will probably change nothing if I do, but I'm really angry.
Tl;Dr: My FIL refuses to stop bringing up politics, even when asked not to, and even goes straight to my kids when he just has to say something about politics.
