We moved in together in March. He’s super relaxed, easygoing, and we’ve talked about our plans to try for a baby within six months. We’ve been together for about 4 years, only seriously for a year and a half.
The thing is I’m worried he is a Peter Pan, unable to take responsibility for himself. He‘s the most self-assured, confident and charismatic guy, lots of friends and great company, but sometimes I just wonder if he has never grown up. I knew this was the case but its starting to turn me off a bit.
Every single night — it’s part of his routine — he falls asleep on the sofa, snoring. I’m used to that by now. Depending how much work I have on, I’ll either watch tv or go up to bed alone. Then when he wakes up on the sofa, he just comes straight upstairs, doesn’t turn any lights off, doesn’t clean his teeth, just falls into bed throwing his clothes on the floor.
I don’t want to sound petty and I’m a pretty chill person but thinking about that now, is that not kind of... bizarre for a near 50 year old man? It feels like something a student would do.
He smokes about 30 cigarettes a day and spends the day on various little random jobs but he’s always onto some new money making scheme without having a proper steady job. A bit like Del Boy. We’re working from home together and a lot of the time he just spends chatting on the phone with customer service people trying to get a new phone contract or something, he just loves chatting.
But I’m here working my tits off (freelance) wondering how that will pay the bills when we have a family and whether he thinks he can just nod off on the sofa every night snoring while I deal with everything else.
TL;DR it’s not really about the exact behaviours, it’s about what they represent in him as a life partner. At the beginning he seemed to have it all together and I admired his youthful attitude but it’s beginning to concern me.
